Curriculum Statement of Intent
At Wallington Primary Academy, we ensure our pupils are provided with an enriching, exciting and engaging curriculum which is broad and balanced. The curriculum will equip them with the knowledge and skills necessary for their next stage of education. We endeavour for our pupils to be ambitious in their aspirations, curious in their learning and knowledgeable about the world around them. By providing a nurturing, yet challenging learning environment, we set out for our pupils to take pride in their achievements and to become active citizens in future society.
Aims
In igniting pupils' interests, by basing our approaches on evidence-based practices and through developing our practitioners we aim to improve pupil outcomes rapidly. We are doing this by swiftly building our support in our universal offer to our most vulnerable pupils and by harnessing our community.

We follow the statutory National curriculum 2014, which provides pupils with an introduction to the essential knowledge that they need to be educated citizens.

- Prepare children for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life
- Provide real life experiences and contexts
- Celebrate the multi-cultural diversity
- Allow and encourage personalised learning
- Nurture the whole child
- Provide spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.
Our foundation Stage curriculum (applies to Nursery and Reception children)

Throughout EYFS children are supported to learn through play, which encourages independent learning. Children are well prepared for their transition into Year 1.
Organisation of the Curriculum
As we are part of the Cirrus Primary Academy Trust, we work closely together to reflect, review and develop our curriculum to ensure that it best meets the needs of our children and reflects current evidence-based, educational practices.
Our foundation subjects are representative of the diverse individuals that have contributed to both British and international developments. Pupils learn about the subjects that they are studying. These are taught discretely. For example, this means in history we will learn about ancient civilisations and in geography, pupils will study the water cycle.
Our English curriculum is designed around quality, diverse texts to foster a love of reading and literature. We firmly believe that this alone will transform lives. We have much to learn about the teaching of English and in particular writing and so, we are focusing on learning from our best partners and educationalists in our commitment to improving pupils outcomes.
Mathematics, Computing, PSHE, PE, RE and Modern Foreign Languages are taught discretely.
For our specific approaches applied to the teaching of reading and mathematics, see reading and mathematics within our 'Learning' section.
